On The Musics I Am Listening To

Hello my lovely followers,

Today, I am gonna talk about my musical preferences. The reason I wanted to post it here is that I may introduce you some of the new bands you may like by any chance. Actually, In my humble opinion, taste in music is one of the fundamental concepts affecting people’s lifestyles. Therefore, it is very important for me and when I meet new people, I almost begin the conversation by asking what kind of music they like.

By the way, many of my friends tried to make me love classical music. To be honest, I kind of liked Bach. But, I prefer to listen it if I need to work on something serious and long-hour boring works. It makes me relax. I deeply admire Bach, Beethoven and those kind of people but that is not fully my type. Besides, I am hesitant to listen to a new band from scratch. The process is very similar to having a friend after 20’s, if any, very close friend. As you realise, alternative and indie is my type. Most of them entered my life when I was in high school. Needless to say, some bands are left as I grow up. I dedicated a special place to some of them at the end of this article though. Anyway, let’s begin to see the bands.

Depeche Mode: They are an English new-wave band. It wont be wrong to say that they are the band that I am listening to at most. As you might heard before that they called off Turkish concert two times, but I had a chance to listen to them in New York. There are many songs I like to listen but, Precious, It’s no Good are my favourites. You should take a look at Dave Gahan's life with ups and downs.

Royksopp: Upon preparing to OSS - college exam - like a maniac, I sometimes was listening Happy Up Here. But, that was my only Royksopp experience until that time. For the last 2 years, I started to listen to them via Spotify and am now addicted to them. When I was reading their Wikipedia page, I was getting happier, as they become more famous. Monument is my favourite song.

Metric: I heard them thanks to one of my friends during my prep year at college. They performed in Kilyos at 2012. My intuition was that they didn't like the concert here. Anyway, I am lucky enough to see Emily Haines alive. I am not going to put any favourite songs of them here, since there are a lot of them. You should definitely check and listen to them.

Two Door Cinema Club: Very very energetic indie band from North-Ireland. You should absolutely listen to their live show. All of the albums of this band are great.

Enya: She is my favourite one-woman-band. You very likely feel something spiritual, holy, unworldly, as you listen to her. Caribbean Blue is not from this world, I think. She is from Ireland. Scandinavian countries and Great Britain almost comprises all of my favourite bands.

Coldplay: They are classical worldwide popular band. To be honest, they couldn't consistenly perform well enough in my opinion. Even worse, many people think the same. I didn't even listen Ghost Stories and A Head Full of Dreams, but still, they are Coldplay. They have great songs. It won’t change and therefore have a place here.

Radiohead: They are starting to be a kind of young people’s group in my head. I know, I am getting older and this is what we call mid-life crisis. Karma Police and There There are my favourites. But you already probably know many things about them.

Sigur Ros: Meaning "Nothing Song" in english, they are so-called post-rock Icelandic(this is how you call it?) group. They have a depressive tone but let you reach and utilize your memory and imagination as much as possible. You should definitely try to listen to them. Staralfur is my favourite song.

Muse: I think almost all of you know them very well. They were in Turkey couple of times. I couldn't listen to them in a live concert, but still love their each album. Having a great football teams and music bands makes England one of the great countries in my eyes.

The Amazing: This is a new Swedish indie-rock band I discovered this year. Picture You is my favourite. Once you start listening to them, you get used to each song of this group. I highly recommend them as well.

Daft Punk: I knew Around The World back when I was kid. To be more specific, we were celebrating the millennium at Taksim Square - By the way, I am not of the so-called Apachees. It was old Turkey’s good time. We were full of regrets, since our car crashed at 3 am 1.1.2000.

Anyway, I don’t want to skip the main point. After the release of Random Access Memories, I discovered Daft Punk. Almost each song of each album came very closer to me as I was listening to them. In case I lose my energy, but need it urgently, I listen to their songs. I definitely recommend them.

Imogen Heap: Former member of Frou Frou. She has a unique style. Thanks God, I listened to them in Istanbul at 2010. One of the things I remember about them is giving a break during the call for praying. Canvas is my favourite song, but you should definitely give her a chance and follow the lyrics of her songs carefully.

Editors: I started to listen to them when I was a second year high school student, using tragic 89-B bus with millions of people in it. It was back 2006-2007. It is one of worst years of my life. Still, listening to them, but having a bad taste when listening to them. Munich is my favourite song.

London Grammar: My favoruite band from the new generation. It is quite funny, but tragic also seeing people at my age creating new bands. The story of how they were created was interesting also. One of the guys of the band seeing Hannah at the college dorm’s Facebook page with a guitar and ask her to play together outside. Then London Grammar come up. All the song of an album named If You Wait are great. They are like the continuation of Metric for me. Hannah - symmetrical as you realise - Reid is probably at top 3 beautiful women I have ever seen and I am pretty sure that other band members are falling in love with her.

Special Case

Red Hot Chili Peppers, God Bless You Emperor, Placebo, Franz Ferdinand, Garbage, Kaiser Chiefs, Travis, Prodigy were once in that list. Some started to bore me, whereas some was not cheering me after a point. I still listen to them, especially RHCP has many great songs though.

One final note: You may realise that there is no Turkish singer or band here. To be honest, I do not like Turkish music a lot, since I am a ostentatious person :P All kidding aside, I like MFO as a band. I really like to listen to them when I visit to Aegean side. Teoman, Sebnem Ferah and Ozlem Tekin was my big sister's favourite singer back when I was at elementary school. I already memorised many of Teoman's songs, and he is very quality musician I think. Nukhet Duru is my mother's favourite singer and she has an aura and is a high quality person and singer.
